MC 5 – John Sinclair's Original Liner Notes For Kick Out The Jams Album
John Sinclair's signed original liner note manuscript for the MC5's debut album "Kick Out The Jams." Sinclair, the MC5's manager and White Panther Party minister of information penned the liner notes for the band's first album on these two sheets of stationery from the Cambridge, Mass. Sheraton Commander Hotel on December 13, 1968. The liner notes appear on original pressings of the album, but were removed by Elektra Records when they pulled the original record off the market because of the line "Kick Out The Jams, Motherfuckers" which appears on the LP and in these liner notes. A censored version of the record was quickly put on the market without the notes, with the offending line changed on the album to "Kick Out The Jams, Brothers and Sisters." The band was soon dropped from the label, as they had become too much of a headache. These two sheets, composed, typed, signed and dated by Sinclair come from the collection of a close associate of the band's, and have never been offered for sale. As with everything we sell, guaranteed authentic without time limit.
