Miles Davis, Bill Evans, MJQ, Etc – Berkeley Jazz Festival 1967 Concert Poster
A wonderful 16" x 22" concert poster for the JAZZ '67 FESTIVAL held at the University of California, Berkeley Greek Theatre, and featuring Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Horace Silver, John Handy, The Modern Jazz Quartet, Gerald Wilson Big Band, and Big Mama Thornton. There are drawings of Miles, Bill Evans and others, and great graphics overall. This beautiful poster is in excellent condition, with an archivally and invisibly repaired 1/2" edge tear and some very minor handling. This poster was originally owned by Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975;) one of the most influential jazz music critics of all time. A central figure in the San Francisco music scene, he helped organize the Monterey Jazz Festival and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine. Gleason was a longtime contributor and editor to Downbeat and Metronome magazines, and wrote liner notes for many Jazz icons including Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. We purchased this and the rest of Gleason's poster collection directly from his family. The only example we've ever seen before, and it's a beauty.
