Monterey Pop Festival – Original VIP Tickets & Business Cards

4 incredibly rare artifacts of the most important Rock Festival ever, the 1967 (and only) Monterey International Pop Festival. This festival was actually 5 separate shows at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, taking place Friday night June 16, Saturday afternoon and evening June 17, and Sunday afternoon and evening June 18. These are tickets to 3 of those shows; show 1 (Friday night), show 2 (Saturday afternoon) and show 4 (Sunday afternoon.) Very very few of these tickets were known to survive, and before a small group was found in the collection of a now deceased promoter of the festival, no white VIP tickets were known to exist. The white tickets were sold at a high price to music industry types and record labels, and allowed the holder to be in a special area at the front of the stage. The acts on these bills were legendary: show 1 featured Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Burdon & The Animals (who wrote their hit "Monterey" about the festival), The Association, Johnny Rivers, The Paupers, and Lou Rawls. Show 2 featured Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company (this was the show that they were signed to Columbia Records at), Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Steve Miller Band, Electric Flag, The Butterfield Blues Band, Al Kooper and Country Joe & The Fish. Show 4 was taken up exclusively by Ravi Shankar who introduced America to Indian Music as a result of playing at Monterey. All tickets are mint. also included is a double sized business card for the festival's original promoter, who became the Production Supervisor, Alan Pariser. This card, poorly illustrated in the scans, is embossed and folds in half to display the logo on the front and contact info inside. Also extremely rare. At one point a few years ago, I sold the few tickets that were discovered in this collection–and held back a few "for later." I just came across them and decided that it's time. Rare as can be, and amazingly historic.
