Morrissey – New York Dolls – 2 handwritten, signed letters w/his Dolls book
Two Morrissey letters to UK writer Jon Savage, with an annotated copy of Morrissey's very rare book "New York Dolls." In January and again in March, 1981 (two years before the Smiths released their first record) Steven Morrisey wrote letters to legendary UK music journalist Jon Savage, the first reporting on a trip to Texas and New York (8.5" x 11", on the back of a homemade James Dean handbill,) and the second accompanying a copy of Morrissey's book, "New York Dolls." It reads "Hello Jon, Not a milestone in English literature and riddled with printing errors, but I thought you might like to see it anyway. I hope you have your video. Or something. Ever, Steven." Inside the front cover of the Dolls book (written as Steven Morrissey) he has written "* originally titled "Look Jane Look, see transexual junkies." An exceptional archive of Morrissey, pre-Smiths. Book 8" x 11.75," excellent condition. 1st letter 8.5" x 11," some creasing. 2nd letter 8" x 5," mint condition.
