Neil Young – Unreleased 1976 ‘Decade’ 3 LP Test Pressing w/Long Version of “Campaigner”

An ultra rare 3 LP test pressing of the never-released original 1976 version of Neil Young’s album Decade, with the unreleased 4:19 version of “Campaigner.”

Decade, Young’s first compilation album (which included new and previously unreleased tracks) was originally scheduled for release on October 26, 1976.  For unknown reasons, after test pressings were made Young changed his mind and postponed the release of the album a full year (it was ultimately released on October 28, 1977.)  He also deleted a full verse from the previously unreleased song “Campaigner” (the released version has three verses, the original four.)

This three disc test pressing of the original Decade is the unreleased 1976 version; disc three/side 6 features the original unedited 4:19 “Campaigner;” which, by the time the album was released a year later, had been edited down to 3:30. Copies of the 1976 version are extremely rare and collectible.

In original generic sleeves with notations.  Disc 1 in NM/EX- condition with two light non-feelable marks that make a few audible light ticks.  Disc 2 in NM condition.  Disc 3 is in VG++/EX+ condition; the all important Side 6 with “Campaigner” is the EX+ side.  [These discs are all very shiny and barely played; the marks are all from careless handling, probably while the test pressings were being reviewed.]
