Nirvana – In Utero Advance Cassette With Extra Track

A very rare Geffen Records advance cassette of Nirvana’s album ‘In Utero’ with the extra track ‘I Hate Myself and Want To Die’ given to legendary British journalist Jon Savage. As Savage explains in the accompanying letter of authenticity, ‘This American Geffen cassette was given to me by Nirvana’s UK PR Anton Brookes in June 1993, in preparation for a PR visit to New York—to coincide with the release of the ‘In Utero’ album—and an interview with Kurt Cobain. The cassette is the first version of the album, which includes the track ‘I Hate Myself and I Want To Die’ on the second side. This song was later left off the album and only released on the ‘Beavis and Butthead’ compilation LP. During that trip, I saw Nirvana play at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC and conducted a long interview with Kurt Cobain. Jon Savage.’ This is the only example of the original ‘In Utero’ sequence of we know to have survived;’ Savage’s letter makes this all the more desirable. Savage’s interview with Cobain, described as “dramatically candid” can be read here: http://www.nirvanafreak.net/art/art8a.shtml . In excellent condition, with a CD transfer of the tape.
