Nirvana / Kurt Cobain – Age 8 Pee-Wee Baseball Team Photo

A truly incredible Kurt Cobain rarity–an original team photo from Kurt’s 1975 Pee Wee baseball team, the Red Barons–also picturing his father Donald Cobain, one of the team’s coaches. The 8 year old Kurt is in the bottom row, fourth from the left; his father Donald is in the top row all the way to the left.

We acquired this from a teammate of Kurt’s; this is his original team photo from 1975. He notes in his letter of authenticity (which is included) that he grew up with Kurt and “was cleaning out my old childhood box of junk recently” and came across this Pee Wee League baseball team photo, taken at their old practice field near Robert Gray Elementary School in Aberdeen.” The photo measures 8″ x 10″ and is one of two team photos he had (the other was smaller and pictured the team on a different day.)

We have watermarked the scan as this is a previously unknown photo–but the winner of this auction will get the original photo which is in mint condition and of course, unmarked.

Wikipedia notes that “Although not interested in sports, Kurt was enrolled in a junior high wrestling team a the insistence of his father. Kurt was a skilled wrestler, yet despised the experience. Because of the ridicule he endured from him teammates and coach, he allowed himself to be pinned, in an attempt to sadden his father. Later his father enlisted him in a little league baseball team, where Cobain would intentionally strike out to avoid playing on the team.” While a 1979 little league team photo has surfaced, this pre-dates it by four years and is undocumented–and includes Kurt’s father. A truly unique and rare Kurt Cobain collectible ! (Sorry, we can’t make copies–only the winner of the auction gets the unmarked photo.)
