Nirvana – Ultra Rare 1988 Olympia, Wa. Handbill- For Their 10th Show as Nirvana
An extremely rare original handbill for Nirvana’s June 17, 1988 show at the Hal Holmes Center in Olympia Washington. This was the 10th show they performed using the name Nirvana, and their third show with Chad Channing on drums.
We acquired this from a member of opening act MDL (Millions of Dead Lenninz), who promoted the show and created the artwork for this and a second handbill made to promote the show (for now, we are keeping the other one.)
The MDL member writes in his letter of authenticity “In June of 1988 in Ellensburg, WA, my “label” Lenin Comps. put on and promoted a show featuring local band King Crab, my band MDL, Lush from Olympia WA, and an up and coming band called Nirvana. Two flyers were made by myself and Nate Hill of King Krab to promote the show. The “Uncle Sam” flyer and the “Batman” flyer. These two fliers were the only means of promoting the show in the small town. I guarantee that the flyers enclosed here, the color “proof” (original artwork) of the Uncle Sam flyers the one and only original that all the others were made from and the black and white copies are originals made to be used to promote the show.”
For his privacy, we have blurred out the name of the MDL band member, but it is on the original letter and we have confirmed with Seattle’s Experience Music Project that he is who he says he is, and the items are authentic vintage originals. (For now, we are keeping the Uncle Sam flyer and original artwork.)
This handbill is pictured on NirvanaGuide.com, where it is noted ”
“About fifty kids” were at the show, according to Slim Moon of Lush.”
The handbill measures 8 1/2″ x 11″ and is in excellent condition, with some very minor handling. We know of no other example of this having been offered for sale–so get this while you can. With a copy of the MDL member’s letter of authenticity and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
