Ornette Coleman – Copy of “The Urantia Book” Signed to A&M Records President
A copy of the mysterious spirtual book The Urantia Book, signed, inscribed and gifted by Ornette Coleman to longtime A&M Records president Gil Friesen. Coleman dated the book 3/14/77 and wrote “Gil, The no name or number ways of reading. Ornette Coleman.” Coleman released his album Dancing in Your Head on the Horizon/A&M label in 1977, so it’s likely he gifted this book to Friesen around the time of the album’s release.
The Urantia Book is an obscure spiritual/philosophical book that according to Wikipedia “originated in Chicago sometime between 1924 and 1955. The authorship remains a matter of speculation. The authors introduce the word ‘Urantia’ as the name of the planet Earth and state their intent is to present enlarged concepts and advance truth. The book aims to unite religion, science and philosophy, and its enormous amount of material about science is unique among literature claimed to be presented by celestial beings”. One website claims ‘Numerous musicians including Willie Nelson, Jimi Hendrix, and Jerry Garcia and are known to have been fervent students’ of the 2097 book. This is the 1976 Fifth Edition, in excellent condition, with the original dust jacket (slight chipping to top and bottom spine of dustcover). An unusual Ornette Coleman collectible; with Recordmecca’s lifetime written guarantee of authenticity.
