Paul Butterfield – 1966 AFTRA Agreement Signed 4 Times For Blues Band TV Appearance

A 1966 membership application for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), signed four times by legendary blues harmonica player and singer Paul Butterfield, along with a receipt for his dues payment of $25.00.  Actors, singers, musicians and other on-air talent were required to join AFTRA when appearing for the first time on radio or television.

Butterfield joins AFTRA, here, on the occasion of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s January 1966 television appearance on local Los Angeles music show 9th Street West.  Butterfield signs and prints both his legal and professional names (Paul Butterfield), on a form likely filled out by a KHJ-TV employee.  Also listed is his address in Chicago, phone number and agent’s name–Albert Grossman, who also managed Bob Dylan at the time.  At the time of this filming, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s self-titled debut album had been out less than three months.

A wonderful document of this blues/rock pioneer, from the early days of his groundbreaking group.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
