Prince – Original 1987 “Black Album” CD, With Full Provenance

If you’re a Prince collector, you already know how exceedingly rare this is–an original 1987 U.S. Warner Bros. Records CD of the withdrawn “Black Album.”

Prince famously cancelled this release at the last minute, and made his label, Warner Brothers, destroy all of the existing copies. Only a very few copies which had been given to senior Warner Bros. executives survived, and this is one of those. Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold is a former executive vice president of Warner Bros. who worked closely with Prince, and this is his personal copy. It comes with Gold’s signed letter of authenticity and Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee.

The disc here is in mint condition and shows no sign of play. It has the 1987 copyright date, the original catalog number, 9 25677-2, and as you can see from the scans below, the DIDX-2720 manufacturing code on the inside rim of the disc.

The original plastic jewel case is in excellent condition with some minor scuffing, as expected. A beautiful barely played example of the rarest Prince record, with exceptional provenance.
