Prince – Prince Owned and Gifted Custom-Made “Diamonds & Pearls” Cufflinks With Provenance
A pair of Prince’s own Diamonds and Pearls custom-made cufflinks, as worn by him on stage and in the “Diamonds and Pearls” video. We acquired these from an Australian recording engineer who worked at Prince’s Paisley Park studios. Her included letter of authenticity is quoted here:
“This letter is to authenticate the accompanying set of “Diamonds & Pearls” cufflinks belonging to Price that he gave me as a gift in July of 1994.
After a Prince concert in Sydney Australia I was invited to the Black Market Night Club to meet the band and possibly Prince. I was so lucky to end up with (New Power Generation members) Kirk Johnson, Damon Dickson and Levi Seacer sitting next to me. Told them I was an audio engineering student who invited my teacher to come see Prince, and somehow ended up here…(she goes on to detail meeting Prince that night)…We chat about Paisley Park. I tell him I want to specialize in mixing. He invites me to Paisley Park.
I arrive in Minneapolis in July in 1994. Studio C is all mine for a week and to cut a long story story, on my last day as I’m about to leave Paisley Park, a woman (employee) is rushing after me saying I forgot something. She reaches me and says… this is for you. He (Prince) wanted you to have this. She then says these are special, one of only a few, then gave me a small black box. I opened it on the plane and saw the amazing Diamonds and Pearls cuff links.” Sincerely, xxx.”
The original owner of these was told these are one of a few pairs, made for Prince, the Diamonds & Pearls girls and Rosie Gaines. They are obviously custom made, and to our knowledge no other set has been offered for sale.
While a senior executive at Warner Bros. Records, Recordmecca owner Jeff Gold worked closely with Prince, art directing numerous album covers for him, including “Diamonds & Pearls”, “Love Symbol” and “The Hits/The B-Sides”, and overseeing much of the marketing of his releases, including The Black Album (for more about this, see: recordmecca.com/news/working-with-prince/). These cufflinks come with a Recordmecca lifetime guarantee of authenticity signed by Jeff Gold, and the original owner’s letter of authenticity (her name is blurred out on the scans here for her privacy.) An extraordinary Prince collectible.
