Anthony Kiedis’ handwritten lyric manuscript to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song “Minor Thing”, used during the recording session for their 2002 hit album By The Way.  Kiedis wrote out the lyrics to his song in black ballpoint pen, on two pages of yellow lined paper.  We acquired these directly from longtime Chili Peppers employee and Road Manager Louis Mathieu.  While Mathieu saved a number of song lyrics from the sessions, these were the only completely handwritten ones (most were computer printouts with minor handwritten annotations).  We have never seen another handwritten Chili Peppers song manuscript.

By The Way was a huge hit, selling more than 286,000 copies in the U.S. it’s first week, peaking at #2 in the Billboard 200, and selling more than 8 million copies worldwide.  Guitarist John Frusciante has stated that writing “By the Way [was] one of the happiest times in my life.”
