Rolling Stone Magazine – Bound Volumes #1 – 7 (Issues #1 – 105)

A rare set of Rolling Stone magazine, issues #1 – 105, bound in a limited edition of seven volumes and gifted by Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner to former Warner Bros. Records president Joe Smith.  Wenner and legendary San Francisco Chronicle music critic Ralph J. Gleason launched Rolling Stone with their debut issue on November 9, 1967; the first issue featured John Lennon on the cover and is highly collectible.  This collection begins with that first issue and ends with issue #105, dated March 30, 1972.  Early on, Rolling Stone commissioned San Francisco’s Cardoza-James Bindery to bind multiple issues into large format books.  These were made available to employees, friends and family of the magazine, with extra copies sometimes sold.  This collection of the first seven bound volumes was gifted by Wenner to legendary music executive Joe Smith, who was at various points president of Warner Bros, Elektra, and Capitol Records.  One volume has a Rolling Stone label inside reading “With the Compliments of the Editor” and the third volume inscribed in ink “Joe, Merry Christmas and here’s to another.  Thanks, Jann (Wenner.)”  All of the covers are in Very Good+ to Excellent condition  The interior pages are all in Excellent+ condition, and the covers are all Very Good+ to Excellent condition, other than some scuffing to the back and dings to the corners of the final volume.  A wonderful collection with excellent provenance.  Note: These are heavy and will be shipped at cost; the shipping fees here are estimated.
