Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger’s Handwritten Set List for 1981 Secret Show as “The Cockroaches”
An exceptionally rare Rolling Stones set list handwritten by Mick Jagger, almost certainly for rehearsals for the group’s secret show as “The Cockroaches”, at Sir Morgan’s Cove, Worcester, Mass on September 14th, 1981.
During August and September of that year, the Stones rehearsed for their first tour in three years at Long View Farm in nearby West Brookfield, Mass. On short notice, they decided to play a secret warm up date at a local club under an assumed name. At the last minute, word leaked and as Rolling Stone reported, the area around the small club was mobbed by up to 4000 people.
This set list was given to a Long View Farm employee by tour (and Small Faces/Faces) keyboard player Ian McLagen. While that employee believed it to be the set list for the show, published accounts indicate a different song selection, and we believe this was a list for an earlier rehearsal. At the top, Jagger has written “Blues, CB’s + Encore” indicating this is a list of blues songs, Chuck Berry songs and possible encores. The list includes four Chuck Berry songs, six blues standards, and four Stones originals (most of the non-originals have been covered by the Stones).
The set list has been authenticated by music autograph expert Roger Epperson; his Certificate of Authenticity is included, as is Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity. A museum quality Stones collectible. (We have blurred out the original owner’s name on the scans to protect his privacy).
