Santana – 1969 Debut Album Cover Slick, Signed By Artist Lee Conklin

An unused slick for Santana’s self-titled debut album, signed by cover artist Lee Conklin.

Santana’s first album featured artwork by Conklin adapted from his iconic ‘Lion’s Head’ poster, for the band’s 1968 appearances with the Grateful Dead and others at the Fillmore West (BG 134 in the Bill Graham series.)   Santana was released in August 1969, just after the band’s breakthrough performance at Woodstock, and fueled by the hit single “Evil Ways,” spent over two years on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, peaking at #4.  Rolling Stone ranked Santana at number 149 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This never-used original album cover slick is beautifully signed by Lee Conklin in the bottom left corner.  In near mint condition, with just a bit of light handling. 13 1/2″ x 15″.
