Sex Pistols – 1977 Huddersfield Christmas Benefit Concert Poster / Their Last UK Show / Jamie Reid
An extremely rare poster from the Sex Pistols’ last-ever UK show, a Christmas Day 1977 benefit at Ivanhoe’s in Huddersfield.
As described in Sex Pistols Diary, ‘the event is aid of a children’s charity and the children of local Firemen. They give a free afternoon party and performance for 250+ local children aged under 14. This performance includes Sid Vicious doing versions of ‘Born to Lose’ and ‘Chinese Rocks.’ Leftover turkey sandwiches are later given out to fans queuing for the evening performance.’
This double-sided Jamie Reid designed poster features a 19th century engraving by George Cruikshank of Dickensian urchins, and Malcolm McLaren’s handwritten ‘Oliver Twist Manifesto’, which, according to Sex Pistols/Satellite, was ‘Malcolm’s major defining statement on the aims and aspirations he had for the Sex Pistols.’ The poster was given away at the concert, and later reproduced on T-shirts and Muslins.
An extremely scarce Sex Pistols concert poster, from a historic show.
Very Good + condition, with even light toning, a tack hole top center, creases to the top corners, and general handling. 16 ½” x 11 ¾”.
A copy of this poster was sold at auction by Sothebys in 2022 for $5600.
