Sex Pistols / Johnny Rotten – Handwritten Lyric Manuscript for “Problems” From “Never Mind the Bollocks”

John Lydon’s (Johnny Rotten) handwritten lyric manuscript for the Sex Pistols “Problems”, from Never Mind the Bollocks. This has been authenticated by Jon Savage, Sex Pistols expert and author of the definitive band biography England’s Dreaming: Sex Pistols and Punk Rock.

Savage’s COA reads “This letter is to confirm the authenticity of an original lyric manuscript for the Sex Pistols song “Problems,” handwritten by John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten.   “Problems” is one of the earliest Sex Pistols songs – dating back to early 1976 at least – and this working manuscript, written on Glitterbest Ltd. Letterhead, contains a few alternate lines not found in the released version.

We can date this manuscript as being written sometime between October 1976, when Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren moved his Glitterbest Ltd. To 40 Dryden Chambers, 119 Oxford St., London, and April 21, 1977, when the Sex Pistols recorded the final version of “Problems” at Wessex Sound Studions in London. My best guess is this was written in March 1977.

Sincerely, Jon Savage.”

This is one of a very few Sex Pistols lyric manuscripts to ever surface. An exceptional rarity from the earliest days of Punk Rock.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
