Sex Pistols – Johnny Rotten Original Vintage Photograph By Nils Stevenson
A rare vintage photograph of Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols fooling around at a piano, taking in 1976 by their road manager and photographer Nils Stevenson. This is an original hand-printed photograph, made from the original negative and printed near the time the photograph was taken. As a “vintage print”, it is much more collectible and valuable than a recent print.
This photograph was taken by English photographer Nils Stevenson; his photo credit sticker and copyright stamp is on the back of the photograph, along with a credit sticker from photo agency Retna Pictures, which licensed photographs to magazines and newspapers on behalf of photographers.
Nils Stevenson’s 2002 obituary in English newspaper The Independent noted “while not as well known as the infamous Sex Pistols svengali Malcolm McLaren, Nils Stevenson helped mastermind the launch of the most influential British punk rock group of the Seventies. He went on to manage the Goth pioneers Siouxsie and the Banshees and later worked with McLaren on a succession of wide-ranging projects. Three years ago, Nils and his older brother, the photographer Ray Stevenson, published Vacant: a diary of the punk years, 1976-79 (1999).”
