Sex Pistols – Rare Jamie Reid Designed “Sex Pistols Number 1 & 2” Poster
A rare UK poster advertising the films Sex Pistols Number 1 and Never Mind The Sex Pistols, Here’s The Problems (aka Sex Pistols Number 2, or Jubilee Riverboat,) designed by Jamie Reid.
Sex Pistols Number One was a half-hour collage of television interviews, commentaries, news footage and live performances from the Anarchy tour; Director Julien Temple filmed some of the footage while it was playing on television sets. Never Mind The Sex Pistols, Here’s The Problems collected filmed media reports of the Sex Pistols chaotic performance aboard a boat in the Thames River during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Both films were shown at Sex Pistols performances prior to the band taking the stage, and at various venues when the band’s performances were banned. Reportedly it was also used by Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren in his efforts to recruit Russ Meyer to direct the aborted Pistols film Who Killed Bambi.
This poster is illustrated on page 70 of Up They Rise, the Incomplete Works of Jamie Reid by Jon Savage and Jamie Reid, and appears during the cinema sequence in The Great Rock and Roll Swindle and later in Sid and Nancy. This is the only example we’ve had of this extremely rare poster.
28″ x 40″; the colors bright and bold. Some fraying to the edges and handling, but overall very good. Will frame beautifully.
