Sonny Boy Williamson / Troggs – 1964 UK Concert Poster

An extremely rare concert poster advertising a show by Blues giant Sonny Boy Williamson, The Troggs and The Muleskinners (with future Small Faces member Ian McLagan) at Town Hall, Basingstoke, England on December 28, 1964.

This is the only poster we’ve  seen for a show headlined by Sonny Boy Williamson (II, born Alex Miller.)  On this date and others, Williamson was backed by The Muleskinners, a West London R&B band featuring a very young Ian “Mac” McLagan on guitar and keyboards (The Muleskinners also backed Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter; McLagan would go on to great fame as a founder-member of the Small Faces and Faces.)  Also on the bill were the little known Troggs, who had formed earlier in 1964 (so little known the promoter misspelled their name.)

The poster is on thin wheat-paste type paper, and has been archivally mounted to linen to protect it.  The poster is in near excellent condition, with some very minor edge tears and pinholes to the bottom corners (a tiny bit missing in the bottom right tip.) These minor flaws are barely noticeable because of the linen backing.  Poster 20″ x 30″; linen mount 23″ x 32 1/2″.
