The Beatles – John Lennon’s Personal Copy of the White Album, With Tracks COA (UK Top Loader)

An extraordinary UK copy of The Beatles (aka the White Album) personally owned by John Lennon.  This was originally sold by respected UK Beatles specialist dealer Tracks Ltd.  Their accompanying letter of authenticity notes:

This is to confirm the authenticity…of an original 1968 pressing of The Beatles ‘White Album’ from John Lennon’s personal record collection.  The LP was given by John to Ken and Margaret Brunt who were employed as personal assistants to John and Yoko between 1967 and 1970″.  The item is supported by a lifetime guarantee of authenticity and a money-back warranty.

This early Stereo ‘top loader’ copy is numbered 0435573, and has discs with “An E.M.I. Recording” on the labels.  The cover grades a very clean EX, with some age-related yellowing to the front cover, but no other issues.  The discs have a number of fingerprints, but as they may be Lennon’s, we have not cleaned them.  Disc 1 is in VG++ condition, and plays overall EX to NM.  Disc 2 grades VG+, with two light but feelable scratches on Side 3, but these are almost inaudible.  On Side 4 there are some ticks during “Cry Baby Cry”, light pops during “Revolution 9” and ticks during “Goodnight”, but it plays well throughout and there are no skips or jumps.  The records would doubtless benefit from a deep cleaning, but as this was owned by John Lennon, that is a decision best left to the purchaser.

The black innersleeves are in VG+ condition, the four Beatles portraits and white cover sheet are NM, and the poster is VG++.  Matrix numbers are YEX 709-1/3/TT, YEX 710-1/4/HR,YEX 711-1/3/HL and YEX 712-1/4/GDG.

With Tracks’ letter of authenticity, Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity, and copies of a letter from Ken and Margaret Brunt regarding the provenance of the records Lennon gave them, a memo to them on Apple letterhead, and a page with 4 photographs of the Brunts with Lennon’s Rolls Royce and psychedelic caravan.

In 2015, Juliens Auctions sold Ringo Starr’s copy of the White Album, #0000001, for $910,000.
