The Beatles – The Quarrymen – Original 1959 Casbah Photograph
A vintage photograph of Paul McCartney and John Lennon, performing as The Quarrymen, at the Casbah Club on August 29, 1959. This was the opening night of the Casbah, located in the basement of Mona Best's house in Liverpool (Mona was future Beatles drummer Pete Best's mother.) To the right of Lennon sits his future wife, Cynthia, with her natural brown hair. This is one of the very earliest photographs of Lennon and McCartney together. This print was published in 16 Magazine, and dates from the early 60's if not earlier. It was made from the original negative, and is far more detailed than any version of this photograph we've ever seen (the image is larger as well.) This print comes from the archive of "16 Magazine" and it's late editor, Gloria Stavers, and has her copyright stamp, publication notes and inscription on the reverse. It was likely obtained from the photographer, Dick Matthews, who sold many early Beatles photographs to "16" in 1964. An extraordinary Beatles collectible; guaranteed authentic with no time limit, as is everything we offer.
