The Beatles & The Rolling Stones – Signed 1965 New York Concert Handbill
Here’s an extraordinary 1965 handbill advertising New York concerts by both The Beatles (at Shea Stadium) and The Rolling Stones (at The Academy of Music) as well as shows featuring The Kinks, Dave Clark Five, Moody Blues, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and the New York Folk Festival featuring Phil Ochs and Chuck Berry. The back of the handbill has been signed (at the Academy of Music show) by Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts, as well as New York dance show host (and longtime Stones supporter) Clay Cole and comedian London Lee (who opened for the Stones on the Ed Sullivan Show.) We believe this is the only handbill ever to feature both The Beatles and Stones (there are at least two variants of this,) not to mention the cream of the British Invasion crop. We purchased this from the original owner, who in his letter of authenticity describes how he picked it up at the Academy of Music Stones concert and then obtained the autographs backstage (Brian Jones ignored his request for a signature and Keith Richards was nowhere to be found.) The handbill measures 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and is in near excellent condition; it has been professionally flattened and there is a small unnoticeable tear where London Lee’s pen penetrated the paper drawing a line under “Lee.” This is the only example we’ve had of this very rare and desirable handbill, and the only signed one we know to exist. With Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity, and the original owner’s letter (we have deleted his name and address to protect his privacy.)
