A truly extraordinary set of Clash collectibles–Joe Strummer’s original handwritten set list for The Clash’s February 1, 1982 concert at the Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo, Japan, along with an unused ticket for that same show, a program for The Clash’s 1982 Japanese tour, and a private pressing CD of the same concert.

The setlist, written on a 3 1/4″ x 7 3/4″ torn piece of paper, is entirely written in Strummer’s hand, and as usual differs slightly from the set the band played. As many bands do, The Clash used set lists as a plan, but regularly added the occasional unplanned song. Next to each song is a graphic probably indicating which guitar Strummer planned to use for that song. At the top “S.P. Tok 1 Feb 82″ is written, designating this as the Sun Palace Tokyo Feb 1, 1982 show. On the back are four number in red–possibly corresponding to the red lines on the front, and noting how many songs were planned for the initial set and subsequent encores.

The unused concert ticket for this same show measures just over 4″ x 2″ and is near mint condition–and extremely rare on its own. The Japanese tour program, in near mint condition,  lists this show.  It measures 11 3/4” square and features 36 pages of photographs, tour information, text in Japanese and advertisements, including one for The Clash’s albums (Sandinista is the latest featured.) Finally, also included is a live CD of this show in Near Mint condition.

This and a Mick Jones set list from the same tour (listed elsewhere on this site) are the only Clash setlists we’ve we seen offered for sale.  The only other Clash set lists we’ve seen were exhibited as part of a Clash exhibit held years ago at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s now closed New York Annex.  A unique opportunity to obtain a group of highly collectible Clash items–which would look great framed together.
