The Clash – Mick Jones Handwritten Set List & Program from 1982 Japan Tour
A truly extraordinary set of Clash collectibles – Mick Jones’ handwritten set list for The Clash’s January 25, 1982 concert at the Festival Hall in Osaka, Japan, along with a program for The Clash’s 1982 Japanese tour.
The setlist, written on a 3″ x 7″ torn piece of paper, is entirely written in Jones’ hand, and as usual differs slightly from the set the band played. As many bands do, The Clash used set lists as a plan, but regularly added the occasional unplanned song. There is silver duct tape at the top and bottom, as this was probably attached to the stage or an amplifier.
The Japanese tour program, in near mint condition, lists this show. It measures 11 3/4” square and features 36 pages of photographs, tour information, text in Japanese and advertisements, including one for The Clash’s albums (Sandinista is the latest featured.)
This and a Joe Strummer set list from the same tour (listed elsewhere on this site) are the only Clash setlists we’ve we seen offered for sale. The only other Clash Set Lists we’ve seen were exhibited as part of a Clash exhibit held years ago at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s now closed New York Annex. A unique opportunity to obtain two highly collectible Clash items–which would look great framed together.
