The Doors – Jim Kweskin Jug Band – BG-67 First Printing Concert Poster
Here's a beautiful first and only printing of BG-67, the Fillmore poster for The Doors (in their 1967 prime) and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band at the Fillmore, with artwork by the Bonnie MacLean (Mrs. Bill Graham). This poster is virtually mint, with two small imperfections keeping it from being mint. First, there is an impressed line, about the width of a dull pencil, fairly faint, and of course with no color on the right side, horizontal, about 4" from the top. You can't see it on the photo, as it's very difficult to see unless you're very close up and looking from the right angle. It's really nothing, but we mention any imperfection. Second, there are two small areas of foxing on the back only–total about the size of a quarter. Otherwise, this poster is perfect. And as you can see from the photo, it looks fantastic and neither imperfection is really visible. This is as fresh an example of this poster as you could ever hope to find; it has been stored in a stack of posters since the show, and has never been hung or exposed to prolonged sunlight. This poster comes the collection of the late Ralph J. Gleason (1917-1975;) one of the most influential jazz and pop music critics of all time. He was a central figure in the San Francisco rock scene, helped organize the Monterey Pop Festival, and co-founded Rolling Stone magazine. Bill Graham himself credited Gleason with suggesting the Fillmore Auditorium to him as a site for concerts, while the Family Dog met with Gleason at his home to discuss their idea to stage dance concerts, prior to their first show at the Longshoreman's Hall. This is a rare opportunity to obtain a poster from the personal collection of one of the key figures of the San Francisco Scene.. On request, we will gladly provide a certificate of authenticity stating that this poster came from the Ralph J. Gleason Collection.
