The Doors – Ultra Rare Promo For 1st 45/LP With Invite Poster For 1st Fillmore Concert

An extremely rare promotional package issued by Elektra Records in late 1966 to promote The Doors debut single, album and appearance at the Fillmore.  The Doors first single, “Break On Through,” and their self-titled first album were both issued on January 4, 1967.  Two days later they made their San Francisco live debut, opening for the Young Rascals and Sopwith Camel, at the Fillmore Auditorium.

Elektra produced a very limited number of these packages to promote the band and invite press and retailers to see The Doors’ Fillmore debut; this is one of a very few to have survived.  The package is a mono album cover proof for The Doors, folded down the spine, with a promotional copy of the single taped inside on the left,  opposite a unique small poster reading “Elektra Records Introduces The Doors will open with Sopwith Camel and Young Rascals.  Light Show.  Fillmore Auditorium. Jan 6 9-2 AM.  The Doors will open at 8:30 for all those who present invitations.”  This poster is arguably the rarest paper item advertising a Fillmore concert.

The album proof measures 12″ x 24″ and is in VG++ condition; the single has never been removed from its sleeve  (the left and right edges of the sleeve are partially split,) and from what we can see the single appears to be in mint condition.  The poster, 10″ x 11″, is printed on thick textured paper and attached to the proof,  and in mint condition as well.  An Elektra representative has written “John: See you Friday, thanks, Pete”  to the right of the single.  The only example of this we’ve ever had the good fortune to offer.
