The Police – Prototype 10 Regatta Multicolored Disc
An extremely rare unreleased prototype 10″ disc made for The Police by A&M Records. In 1979 A&M released the Police’s second album, REGATTA DE BLANC, as a regular album and a limited-edition double 10″ vinyl set. Prior to the album’s release, a small number of 10″ prototypes were made for A&M Records by Pic Disc, the company that pioneered the picture disc. Each prototype was a black disc with irregularly shaped pieces of colored vinyl pressed into it in a random pattern–so every disc was unique. Only the first disc (“Record 1″) of the 10″ set was made in this experimental manner. The colored vinyl experiment was abandoned, however, and the commercial release was on regular black vinyl.(br)Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold is a former vice president of A&M Records, and obtained this from a longtime co-worker who worked closely with The Police. The disc is in Near Mint- condition. A rare opportunity to obtain a truly scarce Police record. (The regular 10” set pictured in the 3rd image is not included and shown for comparison only.)
