The Who – 1973 ‘Quadrophenia’ Press Kit With 8 Page Townshend Essay, Booklet, 6 Promo Photographs

A deluxe press kit issued by MCA Records to promote the October 1973 release of The Who’s album Quadrophenia, and their upcoming 1973 North American Tour.  Housed in a custom press kit folder is a Quadrophenia booklet with reprints of UK music press interviews with Pete Townshend, an 8 page document written by Townshend titled ‘Recording Notes,’ and six 8″x10″ photographs,

The twelve page Quadrophenia booklet reprints in full various UK press interviews with Townshend talking about the band’s new album.

The 8 pages of ‘Recording Notes’ for Quadrophenia were ‘written by Pete Townshend specifically’ and ‘intended to be used for reviewer purposes as a guide to your appreciation of QUADROPHENIA and not for reproduction in whole or part as a press release.  The Who look forward to reading your opinion.  Thank you.’  The essay begins ‘Quadrophenia has taken us about a year to complete.  We started thinking of an album of this type last year, about May, when we stopped work on an album we were doing with Glyn Johns.  In fact, two songs that Glyn produced with us are included on ‘Quad.’

The six 8″ x 10″ publicity photos include a vintage shot of The Who at Shephard’s Bush Bingo Hall in 1964, a Live at Leeds era band photograph, and individual prints for each band member including numerous photographs from throughout the group’s career.

Everything is in excellent condition.  The first of these we’ve seen.
