The Who – UK 1969 “Tommy” Tour Concert Program
A rare program for The Who’s December, 1969 five-date UK tour, during which they performed their new rock opera ‘Tommy.’ This deluxe program features an introduction recalling a High Numbers (pre-Who) show, great vintage band photos from throughout their career, a two page spread with the dates listed, a band bio by Ray Coleman, editor of Disc and Music Echo, 4 pages of ‘Tommy’ libretto, an essay on the band by Peter Cole of the London ‘Evening News,’ an essay on ‘Tommy’, a Who discography, and great vintage ads including a Hiwatt Amplifier ad featuring a Pete Townshend photo, and a Disc and Music Echo ad featuring Keith Moon. We loaned this program to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, who displayed it as a part of their ‘Tommy’ exhibition; included is an email from the Hall’s curatorial director noting this. The only example we’ve seen of this program; in very good plus condition with light rubbing to covers, 20 pages; 10 ½’ x 8′.
