Traffic – Quicksilver Messenger Service – 1968 Pinnacle L.A. Concert Poster
A stunning 1968 first printing concert poster for Traffic, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Crumbs at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles; artwork by John Van Hamersveld. This is one of our favorite psychedelic posters ever, with eye-popping artwork and unique type created by Van Hamersveld. Evidently Van Hamersveld stood on top of a table to photograph a nude lady friend of his girlfriend to compose the ‘letters’ in the text. The poster also visually references his previous posters for other Pinnacle/Shrine concerts of 1968, including the Indian from the Jefferson Airplane poster (his eye is repeated in a grid behind the lettering here) and the girl from the Cream poster (the top half of her head appears at the bottom of this poster.) The model for the ‘letters’ is pictured bottom left. In virtually mint condition; 18′ x 24.’
