Van Halen – Platinum Record Award for Debut Album, Presented to Warner Bros Chairman (Non-RIAA)

An exceedingly rare ‘In House’ Platinum Record Award for Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut album.

This award was presented to Russ Thyret (1944-2021), the former Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Records, Van Halen’s label. Thyret was Warner Bros’ head of promotion when this album was released.  Van Halen peaked at #19 on the Billboard 200, eventually selling over 10 million copies in the United States, receiving the coveted Diamond certification.

This is Van Halen’s first ever platinum record award—and it’s important to note that all of the original gold and platinum awards for this album were in house awards; any RIAA Awards for it were made later. (This is the case with many Warner Bros. Awards from the time).

Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold is a former Executive Vice President/General Manager of Warner Bros. who worked closely with Thyret, and obtained this directly from Thyret’s estate.

In excellent condition, with light scuffing to plexiglas front. 16 x 19″.
