Velvet Underground – Guitarist Sterling Morrison’s Personal 1968 Family Dog Concert Poster (FD-142)
A scarce original first printing concert poster advertising October, 1968 shows by the Velvet Underground, Charley Musselwhite and Initial Shock at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. This poster, #142 in the collectible Family Dog series, comes from the archive of the late Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison. For 19 years it had been on loan to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, where it was exhibited as part of the 1986 exhibition All Tomorrow’s Parties: Remembering the Velvet Underground/ The Martha and Sterling Morrison Collection and after that, on a rotating basis.
We acquired the poster from Sterling’s widow, Martha, and it was shipped to us directly from the Warhol Museum. The back of the poster has Sterling Morrison’s archive stamp and his handwritten inventory number.
The poster is in overall near excellent condition, and displays beautifully. There is some light staining below the name “Musslewhite” and on the back of the poster, but it will frame beautifully.
A rare opportunity to obtain a very rare and highly desirable Velvet Underground/Andy Warhol poster with exceptional provenance—owned by a band member, and exhibited at the Warhol Museum. With Recordmecca’s lifetime guarantee of authenticity, noting the Morrison and Warhol provenance, and copies of the Warhol/Morrison documentation. 14 x 20″.
