Velvet Underground & Mothers – '66 Unknown Concert Poster

A previously unknown concert poster for the Velvet Underground and Nico with the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, Andy Warhol, The Mothers of Invention, and many more at the Night Beat Freakout Happening, held December 4, 1966 in Island Park, New York. The poster promises "An Evening You Will Never Forget," and that must have been true, with a bill also featuring Timothy Leary, The Fugs, The Godz, The Ronettes, The Vagrants, The Shangra La's, The Left Banke, and other bands. Not to mention Rudy Stern, Richard Aldercroff and their Infinity Machines, A Psychedelic Experience MC'd by Scott Ross, Anita Venturi (The Topless Girl From the Crystal Room Doing Her Entire Act,) and "The Nightbeat Birds & Exotic Long Hair Freako-S Running Amok And Crazy." And as advertised, "Free Food-Free Booze." This sounds like a psychedelic Woodstock, all in one night. The double sided poster measures 13" x 10 1/2" and is in excellent condition, with 3 horizontal machine folds (for mailing) and some age toning along the right edge. This is the only known example of this poster, and comes from the collection of Herb Cohen, longtime manager of the Mothers. An extraordinary Velvets collectible.
