Velvet Underground – Original ’68 Andy Warhol Factory Photograph by Billy Name
An extremely rare original photograph of the Velvet Underground, circa 1968, probably at Andy Warhol’s Factory, and taken by Factory photographer Billy Name. This is a rare vintage print, with Billy Name’s FACTORY FOTO stamp on the reverse.
This photograph came from the original MGM/Verve Records Velvet Underground art file. Recordmecca’s Jeff Gold purchased the Velvets art file in the mid 1970’s from a former MGM employee, who had rescued it from a trash bin. Over the years we sold some of the file’s contents, but recently reacquired most of it. This photograph, printed circa 1968, measures 11″ x 14” and is in excellent condition, with the very rare “FACTORY FOTO: BILLY NAME” stamp on the reverse. There is an orange grease pencil arrow at the top indicating mark in the negative that needed retouching; this can easily be removed, but we felt it part of the original photograph and have left it. There is a small brown spot in the bottom right border, but otherwise this has no flaws. Very few photographs in the file actually had Billy Name’s stamp. His original photographs are rare and highly collectible.
This will come with a letter of authenticity stating it is an original late 60’s vintage prints by Billy Name, and come from the original MGM/Verve Art Files. A rare opportunity indeed !
