Velvet Underground, Sly & The Family Stone, Butterfield Blues Band – 1968 Concert Poster
A beautiful and rare concert poster advertising two shows by the Velvet Underground, Sly & the Family Stone, the Butterfield Blues Band and The Rockets (pre-Crazy Horse) at the Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles, June 12 &13, 1968. This poster, part of the Pinnacle Dance Concert series, was designed by Neon Park, and is notable for writing so psychedelic as to be almost unreadable. Advance tickets must have sold extremely poorly as a result, and a last-minute handbill was rushed out, with “This Weekend” and the band names and venue in very bold clear type. The poster, however, is a classic of psychedelic design, and highly sought after. This example is in beautiful EX+ condition, with bright bold colors. There is a small crease in the lower right corner, very minor dings to the top corners, and two very small scuffs, but overall this is very clean and striking.
