Velvet Underground – Ultra Rare 1968 Hippodrome San Diego Foil Concert Poster (White Light/White Heat Era)

A beautiful and extremely rare metallic ink concert poster advertising the Velvet Underground and Quicksilver Messenger Service at the Hippodrome in San Diego, on July 5 & 6, 1968.  This is one of the rarest Velvet Underground concert posters.

The Velvets were touring in support of their second album White Light/White Heat, released in January 1968.  And Quicksilver had issued their self-titled debut only two months earlier–and as the tracks from their live album Happy Trails attest, they were on fire in 1968.

The poster, printed on card stock, measures 17 1/2″ x 22 1/2″.  It is in very good condition, with scattered creasing, mostly along the top and bottom edges.  There are a few tiny, barely noticeable areas of ink loss, and single pinholes in the four corners, with a resulting small tear in the top right corner, and a small surface tear in the bottom right corner.  There are four old pieces of tape and a few moisture stains on the reverse, not visible on the front. These are all minor distractions, and this will frame beautifully.
