Velvet Underground – Unique Trial Proof Van Hamersveld Lithograph
A signed, limited edition silkscreen of John Van Hamersveld’s classic Velvet Underground concert poster. Van Hamersveld originally created this artwork in 1968 for a poster to advertise a concert by the Velvet Underground and Chambers Brothers at LA’s Shrine Auditorium. In the 1980’s he produced a signed, numbered limited edition of this artwork with LA publisher L’Imagerie. These were hand silkscreened, and printed on 23 1/2″ x 33″ art paper –much larger than the original poster. In the 90’s we purchased a number of these from Van Hamersveld’s ex wife, and mixed in were a few signed with “CTP” written in the right corner. CTP means ‘Color trial proof;’ these are proofs with the same printing elements as those in the edition. However, they deviate from the edition through a sequence or color variance, or through added or deleted elements as in the trial proof. A color trial proof may have been pulled at any time during the proofing period or during the printing of the edition. They are signed if the artist feels they are a unique and desirable variation. There is often an overlap in intent between trial proof and the color trial proof. This one-of-a-kind color trial proof has been signed by Van Hamersveld, and denoted as a CTP in the bottom left hand corner in pencil, by him. It has the “L’Imagerie” embossed edition stamp in the left bottom corner as well. This is a one-of-a-kind proof. We guarantee this to be authentic, without time limit. In Near Mint condition.
