Woodstock Festival – Original Large Poster Signed by Promoter Michael Lang, From His Personal Collection
A beautiful original large-size concert poster advertising the Woodstock Festival of Music and Art/An Aquarian Exposition (popularly known as “Woodstock”,) held August 15, 16 and 17, 1969 in White Lake, New York. We obtained this poster directly from Woodstock promoter Michael Lang, who signed it at our request in the lower left corner. Lang’s accompanying letter of authenticity notes “I was the promoter of the 1969 Woodstock Festival and have had this poster in my possession since taking it home 2 days after the festival ended.”
Woodstock is generally regarded as the greatest rock festival ever and it’s easy to see why; the lineup included Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, The Band, Crosby Stills & Nash, the Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker and many others.
Arnold Skolnick’s classic poster for the Woodstock Festival has been reprinted and bootlegged numerous times, but this is an absolutely original first printing with impeccable provenance. Original Woodstock posters were printed in two sizes; this is the larger 24″ x 36″ version. It has the three printing irregularities that appear only on the original large size posters, as noted below.
In Near Mint condition, with a bit of minor handling, and very light toning to the extreme borders from matting and framing. This is barely noticeable other than the left edge of the blue guitar neck, as visible in the close up photo (years ago Lang sold us his few remaining posters, which we quickly sold. This example was repurchased from the original buyer.)
A rare opportunity to obtain a signed Woodstock poster with an exceptional history.
With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
ALL authentic large size Woodstock posters have the following printing irregularities:
1. On the inside edge of the right hand stem of the “M” in “MUSIC”, where the stem makes a 45 degree angle back to the left, there is a tiny dotjust inside the white ink. It is no bigger than a tiny pin hole, and is very close to the peak in the red ink.
2. There is a white speck to the left of the finger closest to the left edge. This speck is 1″ up from the bottom of the blue band, and is less than 1/8″ from the left edge of the poster that is 23 3/4″ wide, and 1/4″-3/8″ from the left edge of the poster that is 24″ wide.
3. There is a tiny white dot in the top stem of the “3”. It is roughly in the middle of the orange ink, and is 3/8″ from the left edge of the “3”. This one is difficult to find. You’ll need really good light, and may even need some magnification.)
