Dizzy Gillespie – ‘To Be Or Not To Bop’ Signed Memoir / From Charlie Watts Collection (Rolling Stones)

A first edition of Dizzy Gillespie’s 1979 memoir To Be or Not to Bop , signed and inscribed in black ink by Dizzy Gillespie ‘To Avi, much, much love, Always, Sholem, Dizzy Gillespie, ‘79’’. The recipient was Avi D’lugoff, wife of Art D’lugoff who ran the legendary Village Gate jazz club on Bleecker St., Greenwich Village, for almost 40 years.

This was part of the legendary jazz collection of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts (1941-2022); and sold as part of Lot 507 in the 2003 Christie’s London auction Charlie Watts: Gentleman/Collector/Rolling Stone.  Included is Christie’s lot tag, our card identifying this as part of Lot 7, and a full letter of authentication from music autograph authenticator Roger Epperson.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
