Eric Clapton – 1996 Martin 000-28EC Clapton Guitar / Serial #5, From Clapton’s Publicist, With Signed Photo

This beautiful Eric Clapton Signature Model 000-28EC is labelled #5, and was the fifth guitar made in the Martin’s long running edition, which began in 1996. This guitar is from the collection of Eric Clapton’s longtime publicist (and a former Martin Guitar publicist,) and has been carefully stored since her passing in 2006.

Typically an instrument endorser–Clapton in this case–would be given a small allocation of a signature model like this and direct Martin to send them to specific individuals.  Clapton had a very long working relationship with his publicist and almost certainly instructed Martin to send this guitar–one of the very first produced–to her. The definitive Where’s Eric website notes in an undated article that Martin has sold over 17,000 of 000-28EC guitars.

This guitar appears to have barely been played. There are a few tiny impressions to the front surface, so small they don’t show up in the photographs. Likewise, there are a few very minor scratches to the pick guard. There are a few very light scratches on the back, probably the result of a belt buckle coming into contact with the surface. These can be seen in a close up photo included here, though in person they are less noticeable.

Included is the original hardshell case, case key, end pin (never installed,) manual, an unused Martin sticker, Martin card, and three Martin guitar picks, reading on one side “My new Martin 000-28EC is the best sounding acoustic guitar I’ve ever played. EC”

Also included is a hand signed 8″x 10″ publicity photo of Eric Clapton from his publicist’s archive.
