Frank Zappa – Signed & Notarized Contract for His Recording Studio, Intercontinental Absurdities Stationery, Etc.

A collection of Frank Zappa memorabilia, including a two page, Zappa-signed and notarized agreement setting up a business involving ‘owning and managing a commercial building and [recording] studio.’

The Certificate of Limited Partnership establishes Wazoo Studios, Ltd. at 5831 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, which became the home base for Zappa’s production company, Intercontinental Absurdities, Ltd.

The enterprise’s investors and ‘limited partners’ are Frank Zappa, Third Story Music, the publishing company operated by Zappa’s lawyer Martin Cohen (brother of his manager Herb Cohen), Richard Melchner, Zappa’s accountant, and ‘general partner’ Brenda Cory.  Each has signed the agreement on the second page.  The agreement is dated Oct. 1, 1972, and stamped on the first page ‘Recorded in Official Records Of Los Angeles County, Calif’ and dated Nov. 2, 1973.

Also included are individual notary certificates for each of the signers, including Zappa and Martin Cohen signing on behalf of Third Story Music, and an unused sheet of Intercontinental Absurdities, Ltd. stationery, listing the address of the business established here.

The first notarized Zappa-signed item we’ve seen.  With Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
