Jimi Hendrix / The Who / Janis Joplin – Monterey Pop Festival Ticket Order Form/Handbill
A rare ticket order form/handbill for the June 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Monterey Pop was arguably the most important rock festival ever–the seminal rock event of the “Summer of Love”.
If you’ve seen the film, you know the story. Jimi Hendrix smashing and burning his guitar in his first US concert; The Who destroying their instruments amid explosions during their their third West Coast show (the first and second days before), Janis Joplin and Big Brother playing a set so powerful that they were signed to Columbia Records right afterward, The Grateful Dead playing for their largest crowd to date, Moby Grape in their first non-Bay Area concert appearances, Otis Redding performing for the first time in front of a mostly white audience, David Crosby subbing for Neil Young in Buffalo Springfield–a pivotal event in the formation of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Laura Nyro’s concert debut–and so many more historic firsts.
This 9″ x 12″ handbill/order form, designed to be folded in thirds, features the preliminary concert lineup and information about travel, accommodations, and seating.
The original owner evidently pinned this, while folded shut, to a bulletin board, as there are a number of tiny pinholes along the bottom and top edges.
