Neil Young- Ultra Rare Pre-1st LP Canada Handbill-Folder / From Neil’s Father’s Collection

An impossibly rare handbill / 4 page folder advertising Neil Young’s residency at La Hibou in Ottawa, Canada, from January 28-February 2, 1969, and the imminent release of his debut solo album. This extraordinary rarity was part of the collection of Neil Young’s father, famed Canadian journalist and sportswriter Scott Young.

In the accompanying letter of authenticity, Neil Young’s longtime archivist/photographer/guitar tech and friend Joel Bernstein writes:

This was given to me by Neil’s father, Scott Young. I photographed Neil Young for the first time at his first East Coast show with Crazy Horse, at the Bitter End in New York City, in February 1969. I went on to work with Neil extensively, as both his and CSNY’s tour photographer, and shooting him for eighteen of his album covers (including After The Gold Rush, Harvest, Time Fades Away, Tonight’s The Night, Decade and Rust Never Sleeps) plus numerous other official projects including publicity, advertising, songbooks, posters, et al. On various tours from 1973-1993, I also worked with Neil as his guitar technician; and served as his archivist for 20 years, researching and presenting him with every source for audio, artwork and text used in his massive box set Archives Vol. 1  1963-1972.

This is from my personal collection. Sincerely, Joel Bernstein

Printed on thick card stock, the handbill/folder measures 6″ x 9″, opening up to 12″ x 9″.  The front has an advertisement for Young’s debut album, listing thee songs and noting it will be “Soon Available At All Record Counters.” Inside is a reprint of a Los Angeles Times interview with Young, discusses being in and leaving Buffalo Springfield, and his upcoming solo album.  The back side promotes Young’s upcoming dates at Le Hibou.

We can locate no other example of this rarity online.  An extraordinary Neil Young rarity with exceptional provenance.
