Ramones – Unreleased Mono Studio Tape for ‘Rock & Roll High School’ Tracks / COA From Ramones Producer / Mixed at Record Plant
A 10″ reel-to-reel Studio Tape of unreleased mono mixes of Ramones tracks from the 1979 film Rock and Roll High School.
This tape was rescued from a trash dumpster by a former employee of the film’s producer, Roger Corman. It has been authenticated by longtime Ramones producer/engineer/mixer/collaborator Ed Stasium, who supervised the music for Rock and Roll High School and mixed these tracks. Included is a professional digital transfer of the tape.
Stasium’s letter of authenticity explains:
This letter is to authenticate a reel to reel master tape of unreleased mono mixes of three tracks by the Ramones, made for the 1979 movie Rock and Roll High School. I down-mixed these tracks at Record Plant in Los Angeles on November 29, 1978.
The film was a low budget production released in mono—so we needed mono mixes of these songs. I made these from copies of the original stereo masters, bounced down to mono for the film. This tape has the mono mixes on the left channel-Track 1-and a 60 cycle synch tone for the film’s editors on the right channel-Track 2.
A bit of trivia: when I was mixing these tracks, Cheap Trick were also recording at Record Plant, and Robin Zander came in and said “Hey is this the Ramones? I love them!”. He hung around for the entire session! These mono mixes have never been released anywhere.
During my long associate with the Ramones, I worked on nine of their original albums, as engineer, mixer, producer, additional guitarist and backing vocalist. I have also engineered, remixed, and produced numerous demos, reissues and live albums for the band.
The tracks on this tape include: ‘Sheena is a Punk Rocker’, ‘Do You Wanna Dance’, ‘I Just Want to Have Something to Do’. [Signed] Ed Stasium
Tapes from the 1970′s often need to be “baked”–or heated in a controlled environment–before playback; the binder used to attach the magnetic particles to the backing can be unstable after many years. Out of an abundance of caution, this tape was baked before being digitally transferred; we suggest the owner not try to play it. The digital transfer includes only the mono mixes on track one, for listenability‘s sake.
This is a one-of-a-kind tape, sold as a collectible only; no rights of reproduction or copyright are included or inferred.
A unique opportunity to obtain a truly one-of-a-kind Ramones collectible
