Sun Ra & His Astro-Infinity Arkestra – 1968 Carnegie Hall Concert Poster
An extraordinarily rare concert poster advertising two April, 1968 shows by Sun Ra and his Astro-Infinity Arkestra at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Contemporary advertisements for these show promised “17 musicians, 60 instruments, 14 projectors, primitive dancers, space costumes and throat singers.” According to a New York Times, fewer than 500 people attended the first night, and the Arkestra “spent most of the evening huddled in semidarkness while a light show played around it, films were displayed, dancers danced, singers sang and off-stage and onstage voices recited.”
The only example we’ve seen of this poster, and one of a very few Sun Ra posters from the 1960s. Printed on card stock; in mint condition. 14 1/4” x 9 3/4”.
