Velvet Underground – Guitarist Sterling Morrison’s Sweater, Worn in Numerous Band Photos

A wool sweater owned by Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison, who can be seen wearing it in numerous photographs with the band.

We acquired this directly from Morrison’s widow Martha Morrison, whose accompanying letter of authenticity explains that the sweater was given to Sterling by the Velvet Underground’s road manager, whose father had won a Nobel Prize in 1968 and had taken his family to Norway to accept it. He ‘brought back sweater for each member of the Velvet Underground. Sterling loved wearing his.’

Morrison can be seen wearing this sweater in a series of photos by Factory photographer Billy Name, reproduced in Johan Kugelberg’s book The Velvet Underground: New York Art, and on a 1969 handbill advertising a Velvets show at the Woodrose Ballroom in South Deerfield, MA.

Label reads Pure Wool and Made in Denmark.  27 ½” armpit to armpit, 31” collar to bottom.  In very good condition overall.

With a copy of the Woodrose Ballroom handbill, Martha Morrison’s handwritten letter of authenticity, and Recordmecca’s written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
