ZZ Top – Vintage Oversize Limited Edition Photograph, Signed by Photographer Glen Wexler
An oversize limited edition photograph of ZZ Top by Glenn Wexler, signed in pencil by the photographer and annotated AP (Artist’s Proof.)
This is a black and white outtake from Wexler’s photo session for ZZ Top’s Greatest Hits, and is reprinted in Wexler’s book The 80s Portrait Sessions.
In his book, the photographer writes of this image: I’m watching Reservoir Dogs for the first time. At the exact moment when everyone is shot during the Mexican standoff, I’m completely weirded out, and the phone rings. It’s approaching midnight and it’s Billy Gibbons calling. He apologizes about it being so late, but is excited about an idea he wants to run by me. He asks if the band can wear leopard skin sport jackets on the front cover photo for their Greatest Hits album. He explains “it’s so out of step, it’s perfect for us.” How could I disagree it was ZZ top. Of course it was perfect.
Sheet 17″ x 22″, image 14″ x 18″. In virtually Mint condition, with a few almost imperceptible handling creases.
From Glen Wexler’s website:
According to Eric Idle of Monty Python, “Glen is a seven-foot Scotsman with a wooden leg whom I met Frog Rolling on an Eskimo trip in Northern Greenland.” Believe what you will. That’s the point. His pictures have taken the viewer deep into make-believe worlds that look real. Glen’s signature style of “improbable realities” has earned an international client base and the following of photography collectors.
Discovered by the music industry while he was a student at Art Center College of Design, Glen created hundreds of album covers before turning 30, working with artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Van Halen. Legendary (m)ad man, Ed McCabe, brought him into the world of advertising for the reboot of the iconic Maxell campaign in the early ’90s. Since then, Glen has worked on countless award-winning campaigns for top international brands including Acura, Allstate, Adobe, Electronic Arts, Epson, Nokia, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Capital One, and Jeep. He also created iconic photographic film logos for the Star Wars Trilogy and Batman Forever, and corporate logos for Universal Pictures and Geffen Records.
